Oregon City is a place where people put down roots. The city’s own brief history describes it as the end of the Oregon Trail, the place where many early emigrants made their final stop, and it has been home to families ever since. Today the Oregon Encyclopedia counts more than 37,000 residents, and many of them have lived in the same house for decades. Long tenure in one home is something to be proud of. It also means belongings accumulate, and for some people, that accumulation grows into something that affects health and safety.
Hoarding situations come to us in many ways. An adult child calls after visiting a parent who has been living alone. A family is settling an estate and finds rooms they have not seen in years. A homeowner reaches out on their own, ready for help but not sure where to start. Sometimes a landlord, a caseworker or a property manager is involved. In every case, there is a real person at the center of the situation, and that person deserves dignity and respect.
Our role is the physical and environmental side of the work: clearing what needs to go, cleaning and sanitizing, and addressing the hidden problems that often come with long-term clutter, such as pests, mold and odors. We work alongside families and, where appropriate, the professionals supporting them.
Oregon City’s housing includes homes built from the 1870s into the early 1900s in the McLoughlin Conservation District, as well as many mid-century and newer houses across the city. Older homes in particular can have attics, basements, cellars, closets under stairs and outbuildings where items collect out of sight. Clearing a house like that takes patience and careful planning, especially where floors, stairs or wiring are old and need to be treated with care.
The National Weather Service Portland office serves a region with a long, damp season, and Oregon City sits where the Willamette and Clackamas rivers meet at Clackamette Park. When paper, fabric and boxes are stacked against walls and floors for years, moisture gets trapped and mold can grow unseen. Clutter also gives rodents shelter and nesting material. By the time items are moved, there are often droppings, chewed materials and contamination that need professional cleanup.
The physical work is only part of the job. The International OCD Foundation describes hoarding disorder as a recognized condition in which people have persistent difficulty discarding possessions, regardless of their value. That means forced, sudden cleanouts can be distressing and are often not lasting. We work at a pace the household can manage, involve the resident in decisions whenever possible, and set aside important papers, photos and keepsakes so nothing meaningful is lost. If the resident wants to take breaks or revisit a decision, we build that into the schedule.
Homes with heavy clutter often have poor indoor air. Dust builds up where cleaning has not been possible, airflow is blocked, and mold and pests add their own contaminants. The U.S. EPA notes that indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. The EPA’s guide to mold, moisture and your home recommends professional help for growth larger than about ten square feet.
When rodents are present, the CDC advises wetting droppings and nesting material with disinfectant rather than sweeping or vacuuming, to avoid stirring up particles. The American Lung Association also offers guidance on reducing indoor pollutants. For the emotional and mental health side, SAMHSA provides information and resources that may help individuals and families find support. We are not counselors, and we encourage families to involve the right professionals alongside our cleanup work.
For older adults living alone, clutter can also raise practical concerns about falls, blocked exits and heating equipment that cannot be reached for service. We approach those concerns gently. Our goal is to make the home safer while preserving the resident’s sense of control over their own space and belongings.
Every home is different, but these issues come up often in hoarding cleanups:
Professional help makes sense when clutter blocks doorways, hallways or stairs, when rooms can no longer be used for their purpose, or when there are signs of pests, mold, spoiled food or strong odors. Safety concerns, such as items stacked near a furnace, water heater or electrical panel, or a blocked exit, also call for attention.
Families often reach out after a health event, a fall, or a conversation with a doctor or caseworker. Others call when a home needs to be prepared for sale or a move. Whatever the reason, a free, no-obligation consultation is a good place to start. We will listen first, look at the home respectfully and suggest a plan that fits the people involved. There is no pressure to commit on the spot, and families are welcome to take time to talk things over.
Step 1 — Private consultation. We talk with you about goals, concerns, timing and anyone else who should be involved, and we visit the home respectfully, with as few people as needed.
Step 2 — Plan together. We agree on what will be kept, donated or discarded, how important items will be set aside, and the order in which areas will be cleared.
Step 3 — Protect and prepare. Our team uses protective equipment and sets up containment where contamination is present.
Step 4 — Sort and clear. We remove items room by room, checking with the resident or family on questions and setting aside documents, photos and valuables.
Step 5 — Clean and sanitize. Surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, and pest, mold and odor problems are addressed.
Step 6 — Restore and review. We walk through the home with you, identify any repairs or follow-up services needed and help plan for ongoing support.
We treat every person and every home with dignity. Our team is discreet, and we do not judge. Our focus is on making the home safe and healthy again. Many of the families we help have never asked anyone for this kind of help before, and we keep that in mind from the first call.
Because we specialize in indoor home health, we can address what is often hidden after clutter is removed, including mold remediation, rodent cleanup and air duct cleaning.

I couldn’t be happier with their service. My initial call to make an appointment and ask questions was so pleasant. Sweetest woman ever! Chaz serviced my home cleaning my vents/HVAC ducts. I’ve never had it done before and was a bit anxious, but he was very kind, and professional, and...

Edwin and John cleaned the dryer vent as well. Nice team work! They were prompt, very thorough and professional. Best of all, I have peace of mind regarding the air I breathe in my house for the next while. Thank you, Annie

Great service (and company). Domanic did an awesome job cleaning our air ducts and dryer vent. He was very thorough and explained everything he was going to do. The best part was seeing the before and after photos. I highly recommend and will use them again!

David, Travis and Joe came to my new house to work on my crawlspace and repair sump pumps, wet ducts and the vapor barrier. These three have been great to work with. They were always on time, professional and took as much time as I needed to explain the complicated work that was completed under...
